Stop substance misuse before it becomes a problem!
PREVENT! is a six-session individulized program that provides the most effective approach to addressing substance use with young people:
-
For clients in early stages of substance misuse it becomes a PREVENTION program
-
For clients with a more severe problem, it becomes an INTERVENTION; it helps the client understand why more help is needed, and saves valuable treatment time by not having to argue with a resistant client.

The MOTIVATIONAL INTERVENTION Model
"Telling a client their chemical use is a problem—without helping them understand why—is a set-up for a resistance."
The unique feature of PREVENT! is that it helps the client arrive at his or her own decision about how to proceed in addressing a substance abuse issue.
* Education: A specially designed session for client AND parents that examines the difference between social use and addiction.
* Written work: Clients examine their drug use history, symptoms, benefits vs. risks of chemical use, impact of substance abuse, and motivation for quitting.
* Individual and family sessions: Clients discuss their chemical use in three individual sessions, then review with parents and discuss what needs to happen next in a final family session.
"Our son got more valuable substance use education from Jim's PREVENT! program than our other son got after spending two months in a residential treatment program. We avoided having to send him to treatment and he's doing great now!"

JIm Savage, LCDC
With over 35 years of experience working in the addiction treatment field, Jim Savage is a leader in the area of working with young people in the early stages of substance misuse.
His experience of running his own adolescent outpatient treatment program for over ten years led to a good understanding of what works and what doesn't work when addressing substance use issues with young people.
Jim believes in helping the client understand exactly what it means to have a problem and allowing them to see for themselves whether their own substance use is a problem or not.
Young people are often pleasantly surprised at Jim's laid back approach and ability to relate to them as a result of his own experience with addiction and recovery.
