My Story Is Your Story
In 1988 I suffered a relapse into my own addiction and ended up in rehab—as a relapsed drug counselor.
As painful as that period was for me, it was an experience that changed my life. Despite years of referring to myself as being in recovery, that experience lit a spiritual spark in me that began my journey of true personal transformation.
My own spiritual journey led to studying and being trained in a broad spectrum of spiritual traditions and psycho-spiritual developmental models. As I continued to enrich my own spiritual foundation, I recognized how the concepts and principles found in 12-Step recovery are found across the spectrum of spiritual belief systems, ancient wisdom schools, and psychological development models. I began to see the addiction-recovery process as basically a microcosm of the overall spiritual journey of life, and that from a developmental perspective, we all have basically the same story.
I ended up developing an extensive body of work ranging from rock musicals to meditation programs, all with the common goal of:
- inspiring those struggling with addiction to begin their own journey that ultimately leads to personal transformation
- showing how we are all on basically the same journey
Today I'm able to draw on this body of work to help clients find a path that works for them, while keeping recovery front and center.
"Many paths lead to the top of the same mountain."
— Chinese proverb
