"Lunch And Learn" Virtual Parent Support Meeting
"I thought my daughter's addiction was the worst thing that ever could have happened to our family. Today I can say it's the best thing that ever could have happened to our family."
— Ricky E. Parent of a 17-year-old treatment client
Having specialized in the field of adolescent addiction treatment for over 30 years, there is one thing I am very clear about:
Addressing a substance use issue with teen or young adult child can be one of the most challenging things a parent may ever have to face.
One of the most important periods of my career was ten years—from 2000-2010—when ran my own adolescent outpatient treatment program. It was during that time that I got a really good education about what works—and what doesn't work—in addiction treatment. Especially when we're working with young people in addiction treatment.
And one of the things that got my attention the most was realizing just how much of an impact the family can have on treatment success—but at the same time realizing just how much help the family needs in walking through all this and learning how to use treatment effectively.
I decided to sell my treatment program and focus specifically on working with parents for the sole purpose of improving treatment outcomes.
Or to put it another way: To help parents avoid treatment failure.
I ended up writing a book called Rehab Works! A Parent's Guide To Drug Treatment, and developed an entire program for parents to go through WHILE their child was in treatment. And for the past ten years I've helped hundreds of parents navigate the road to successful recovery—not just for their child, but for the entire family as well (as reflected in the quote from the parent above).
But I'm also painfully aware of how hard it can be when you have a child in treatment:
How do we know this is going to work?
What do we do if it doesn't work?
What can we be doing to make sure it works??
And all you can do is wait till the next family session or the next time you can talk to your child's counselor.

That's why I'm excited to announce a new free resource I'm offering to provide additional support for parents of who have a child in drug or alcohol treatment:
