Happy New Year!
I thought I'd start the New Year out with something sort of fun...
Now, I know some of you aren't even old enough to remember Monty Python. But for those of you who do, you'll probably recall the quick little quip they'd sometimes play before the start of a segment:
"And now for something completely different... "
That's what I've got for you today. Something completely different!
Successful recovery starts with a solid foundation. And one of the most effective tools I've landed on for creating a solid foundation for recovery is the Stages Of Change Model.
A lot of treatment professionals use this simply as a way to assess where a client is in their treatment process. But I actually use it as treatment tool for helping clients eliminate common cracks in the foundation that contribute to poor treatment outcomes.
OK, nothing really "completely different" about that.
But... How about using a fairy tale for teaching you how I do this?
Here's a quirky little video I made years ago called A Storytelling Approach To The Stages Of Change. The truth is I don't really do much with this particular video these days, but for some reason it gets a lot of attention on YouTube. So in the spirit of "And now for something completely different", I thought I'd share it with you today.
What you will learn in this video:
-
The Stages Of Change Model
-
Recovery is a long-term process
-
Dealing with relapse triggers
-
The importance of family engagement in treatment
